a cheap trick

i saw on pintrest an awesome idea on how to make your furniture look like it is one of those super expensive pieces with metallic accents that are all the expensive rage.

I really like them. My only problem is that I don't like how much they cost? seriously, so expensive! so, i took this piece, that i like, but thought would be really cool with this look.

I started on one side and lightly wrinkled a piece of foil. I applied a coat of mod podge to the nightstand and put the shiny side of the foil down. I smoothed it down CAREFULLY and applied a coat of mod podge to the top of it, and moved on to the next section.

This is what she looked like when all the foil was on. Basically a nightstand wrapped in tin foil.

Just to make sure that the nightstand was scratch resistant i put another layer of modpodge on the whole piece.

i then sprayed the whole thing with metallic paint i got from Roberts. the steel paint was awesome. i sprayed it on really lightly. next, came the black glaze. i actually only watered down some black glaze, and i think it turned out just the same. i put this on really quick and rubbed it off. i concentrated on the edges and places with wrinkles. i also put another top coat of poly on the whole piece, make sure it's water based, oil base will turn it yellow.

And here she is ALMOST all finished....i need glass knobs, which, i think, will make a hug difference.
